Mission and Vision

Student MOJO creates student housing so that young people can focus on earning their diploma. We work closely with our residents to meet their basic needs, including health care, career development, and self-empowerment. We are committed to keeping food and talent on the table, supporting students attain permanent supportive housing so that we can support their vision and plan for a fairer, wiser, and kinder society.

Our Story

In 2015, Louis Tse was pursuing his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at UCLA when he started seeing students sleeping in spaces not meant for sleeping on campus. He elected to live in his car for two years, setting aside the money he would have used for rent to open a student-run shelter for college students experiencing homelessness. In 2020, he founded the Student Movement of Justice and Opportunity to support students who became homeless during the COVID-19 pandemic and to engage them as active participants in the students’ basic needs movement.

LET’S KEEP FOOD & TALENT ON THE TABLE

Students, throughout history, have demonstrated that they know the way to driving dialogue, action, and change, and this generation has inherited enormous societal challenges.

We support students pushed to the margins who are pursuing their hopes, goals, and diplomas. We provide basic needs so students can hunger for knowledge, not for food; so they can use their ingenuity on positively impacting their communities, not on locating a safe space to sleep every night.

THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN THE POWER OF YOUNG PEOPLE

One of our core tenets is strength in numbers, and this movement is only possible thanks to generous support from people like you. Your gift goes directly to students in need – you are providing them the basic needs so they can focus on their futures. Thank you for believing in the power of a diploma, and our young people!
